Comparison of investigation methods

Conventional method
Yamatake’s investigation method
Step 1

Preliminary investigation 1
Divide the treatment area into sections, and in each section:

histrical data of wastewater treatment prant
Historical data of WWTP

-Review and analyze existing data of areas affected by RDI&I,
-Calculate RDI&I volume,
-Measure groundwater, etc.

Prioritize sections for further investigation..
Estimate RDI&I volume to the WWTP or at flow monitoring points in the main sewer line by analyzing historical data of the WWTP and rainfall data.
No need for additional flow measurement.

Step 2

Preliminary investigation 2

Narrow down areas for further investigation by dividing priority areas in smaller section.

Repeat Step 1 in smaller sections to select areas for secondary investigation.

Narrow down areas estimated to have high levels of RDI&I in the service area by analyzing sewage inflow volume and radar rainfall data through a pattern matching process.
Investigation term

Approx. 2 to 3 years

Approx. 4 to 6 months

Continue with

Secondary investigation (smoke test, CCTV) in priority areas.
