In countries all over the world there is intense activity surrounding research in the life sciences, and steady progress is being made in decoding genomes, the genetic blueprint of life. The human genome, for example, is now fully sequenced. Using this genome data, researchers are currently working on developing applications at the genetic level for everything from medicine and health care, to drug manufacture, food, agriculture, forestry, fishing and the environment. At Yamatake, we are hoping to use the measurement and control technologies we have developed in the industrial and building fields for such life science applications. We are at present engaged in an R&D project involving biochips that represent a revolutionary new concept.
