Sales surge for Yamatake's electromagnetic flowmeters
Yamatake Group's Kimmon Manufacturing Kyoto Factory to start manufacture of electromagnetic flowmeters
- ¥ 1 billion investment in leading-edge manufacturing facilities -
Tokyo, June 12, 2007 – Yamatake Corporation is enjoying strong sales of electromagnetic flowmeters in Japan and overseas, with Yamatake's Shonan manufacturing at full capacity. However, in investigating investment in production facilities needed to meet future sales plans, Yamatake announced its decision to transfer the manufacture of electromagnetic flowmeters from the Shonan Factory to Yamatake Group company Kimmon Manufacturing's Kyoto Factory where new manufacturing facilities will be established.
Yamatake's production volume of electromagnetic flowmeters has soared from 11,500 units in fiscal 2003 to 17,500 units in fiscal 2006, and has held the No. 1 position in electromagnetic flowmeter sales in Japan for three consecutive years from 2004. Furthermore, by expanding sales to 28,000 units in 2010, the Company aims to capture a worldwide share of over 6%. In particular, the MagneW Two-wire PLUS Smart two-wire electromagnetic flowmeter, a key product featuring low electricity consumption, high precision and low installation cost, is extending its track record in the chemical and municipal, and water and waste markets. Among two-wired electromagnetic flowmeters, the MagneW Two-wire PLUS boasts a 42% share of global sales and over 80% share of domestic sales (based on in-house figures).

Initially, investment in facilities to meet the increasing production of electromagnetic flowmeters was considered for the Shonan Factory; however, through further investigation of optimizing the production framework of the entire Yamatake Group, it was decided to newly establish facilities for the manufacture of electromagnetic flowmeters at Kimmon Mfg's Kyoto Factory.
The Kyoto Factory manufactures large-sized water meters and is equipped with facilities for calibrating flowmeters. Because part of its calibration equipment can be used for electromagnetic flowmeters, synergy in manufacturing is achieved. Another advantage is its logistical convenience in terms of parts procurement from Yamatake's factory in Dalian, China (Dalian Yamatake Control Instruments Co., Ltd.) and delivery of products domestically and internationally. With the commencement of production at the Kyoto Factory, Yamatake will satisfy JCSS (Japan Calibration Service System) requirements as well as establish flow calibration equipment of the highest world-class standard with uncertainty of less than ±0.05%.
Production lines will be relocated in sequence to the Kyoto Factory from July 2007, starting with small-sized electromagnetic flowmeters of 25mm or less to begin production in August. Full-scale operation is scheduled for July 2008, by which time the transfer of production of all electromagnetic flowmeters, up to large-scale models, is expected to be completed. Production capacity is planned at 30,000 units per year, with a manufacturing staff of about 70 members. With the space made available at the Shonan Factory, Yamatake plans to enlarge the manufacturing lines of differential pressure transmitters and pressure transmitters, both key products with increasing production volumes.
Investment in relocating production operations, including the establishment of new flow calibration equipment, is estimated at about ¥1 billion.
