Expanding the human-centered automation business:
Yamatake establishes software development base in Dalian, China
On January 1, 2007, Yamatake Corporation established its first software development base in China, in the city of Dalian. The new company, Yamatake Information Technology Center (Dalian) Co., Ltd. – abbreviated YTD – started operations on January 22 this year.
YTD develops software related to the provision of products and services, two key components of Yamatake’s “human-centered automation”. Specifically, this work involves the software embedded in Yamatake products as well as the Yamatake Group’s information infrastructure for various aspects of customer support – production, sales, and service. YTD is also expected to engage in developing and operating the information infrastructure related to Yamatake products and services supplied within China in response to the sudden expansion of the Yamatake Group’s overseas business – especially in the Chinese market – and the growth in the supply of products and services, including software, within China.
The creation of its own development base in China, a country that turns out software engineers in great numbers, means that Yamatake can secure talented staff to work for the Group. By setting up a base for software development, it will be possible to develop strong links with local universities, facilitating the hiring of high-caliber graduates. Harnessing the Yamatake Group’s know-how and technologies, YTD will be able to cultivate high-quality engineering skills over a short time span, leading eventually to the acquisition of new technologies and know-how for the Group, as well as generating new growth. Also, using this base as a center of operations, Yamatake will enhance its capabilities for development processing through cooperation with Chinese software development companies; this is expected to speed up the development process and thus assist the expansion of Yamatake’s business.
The new company is wholly owned by Yamatake Corporation and capitalized at US$350,000. Yasuyuki Washi, a corporate officer of Yamatake, has been appointed chairman. It is eventually planned to employ a 100-strong development team of engineers.
Implementing “human-centered automation”
On the occasion of Yamatake Corporation’s 100th anniversary in 2006, “human-centered automation” was confirmed as the core of the Group’s philosophy and the future course of its business, starting from 2007. In order to realize human-centered automation, Yamatake is reinforcing its conventional businesses, focusing on creating added value by working hand-in-hand and on site with its customers. Additionally, Yamatake is actively enhancing the infrastructure required for developing various technologies, software and know-how related to human-centered automation, as well as accumulating this expertise within the Group and drawing on it to create new value.
Owing to the recent progress in IT/software technologies, as well as the expanding scope of the Yamatake Group’s businesses, the infrastructure that supports product development and business operations in Yamatake’s core field of measurement and control has become increasingly important. This new software development company has been established in Dalian, China, in order to strengthen Yamatake’s software development capabilities, at the same time as facilitating the acquisition and sharing of that know-how among members of the Group.
