| Yamatake to Enter European Market for Natural Gas Equipment, World's Smallest Natural Gas Analyzer Developed |
TOKYO, JAPAN, April 2, 2001 - Yamatake Corporation, one of Japan's leading manufacturers
of measuring and control devices, has announced that it will be launching a
new business initiative in Europe, where there is expected to be strong growth
in natural gas infrastructure investment.
With the decommissioning of nuclear power stations and growing concerns
for the environment, Europe is turning increasingly to natural gas as a primary
energy source. Much of the infrastructure is already in place, with a network
of pipelines delivering natural gas from Russia, the North Sea, the Caspian
Sea region, and North Africa. This has been matched by progress in market
deregulation: the monopoly of state-owned gas companies is being terminated
in several European countries. At the same time, heat energy will be replacing
volume as the standard for deciding gas contracts and prices. For this reason,
there is sure to be strong growth in demand for analytical devices that can
accurately determine heat content. However, a problem is posed by the high
price and large size of the gas chromatographs typically used for this purpose
today.
By focusing specifically on the analysis of natural gas, Yamatake has solved
this problem with a breakthrough in design: it has succeeded in developing
a revolutionary natural gas analyzer - the HGC303 - which is the smallest*
in the world. With this HGC303 as its flagship product, Yamatake will work
to develop a comprehensive gas business encompassing those fields in which
it is traditionally strong, from sensing to monitoring and control. |

HGC natural gas analyzer features |
Measuring just 10 x 11 x 26 centimeters, the HGC303 is small enough to hold in one hand, and it only weighs 5 kilograms. As well being compact and inexpensive, it offers low installation/maintenance costs and exceptional stability (low drift). Yes this revolutionary gas analyzer can perform accurate on-line composition analysis (11 components) according to the ISO 6974 standard; it also calculates heat value, density, wobbe index and compressibility factor according to ISO 6976. One European gas company has already tested the performance of the HGC and concluded that it offers higher accuracy than much larger conventional devices.
At the World Gas Exhibition held in Nice, France, in June 2000, booth visitors were astonished by the compact design and high cost-performance of the HGC. The right product at the right time, it makes accurate energy measurement affordable for all natural gas suppliers and customers throughout the network. Strong growth in demand is anticipated in the next five years.
Yamatake Corporation with its 9 Japanese subsidiaries and 16 overseas affiliates
form the Yamatake Group. Working closely together in building and industrial
automation, our aims are to conserve energy and labor, improve safety, and
provide a comfortable environment. The Yamatake Group employs 7,000 people
and had sales of 169.6 billion yen ($1.6 billion) in 2000.
