Environmental Management: Environmental Targets and Results

Targets and results

The Yamatake Group has designated its environmental management plan as one of its management strategies, and is creating concrete, medium-term targets to realize the plan. These targets are also reflected in the objectives and goals set by each Group company and in-house company, as well as the business plans of each department, where continuous improvements are being made.


Results in fiscal 2005

In fiscal 2005 asbestos became a full-fledged social issue in Japan. Yamatake worked to replace parts containing asbestos that had been used in control valves and other products, and by March 2006 had made replacements for all affected parts.

  1. Improvement of Environmental Management System
    • ISO 14001 certification acquired by all Yamatake Corporation business and sales offices.
    • System for collecting environmental performance data built and put into operation.
  2. Environmental performance
    • Carbon dioxide emissions at all factories increased 0.2% over the previous fiscal year.
    • Recycling rate for all waste at all factories was 98%.
  3. Promotion of environmental design
    • Proportion of products earning environmental labeling certification was 95%.
    • Examples of new products:
      • Infilex series Building Air-conditioning Controller
      • Cooling Tower Controller MIZCON Plus
      • HP100/HP300/HP800 series Photoelectric Sensor with built-in, all-purpose amp
      • CMQ-V series Digital Mass Flow Controller
  4. Measures against chemical substances
    • Continue with promoting substitution for substances contained in products and prohibited by RoHS Directive.
  5. Promotion of green procurement
    • Number of suppliers participating in Yamatake Eco Program: 36. (Yamatake Eco Program promotes environmental preservation activities of suppliers)

Objectives for fiscal 2006

  1. Trial introduction of environmental efficiency indicator; improve environmental efficiency at Yamatake Corporation by 5%.
  2. Reduce carbon dioxide emissions from energy by 5% per unit of sales at Yamatake Corporation.
  3. Draw up plan for environmental design, and promote LCA.
  4. Build system for managing harmful chemical substances contained in products.
  5. Promote environmental preservation activities of suppliers through Yamatake Eco Program.

Targets for fiscal 2008

  1. Full-scale implementation of environmental efficiency indicator.
  2. Reduce carbon dioxide emissions from energy by 5% per unit of sales at Yamatake Corporation.
  3. Implement environmental design support system.
  4. Complete company-wide system for managing harmful chemical substances contained in products.
  5. Suppliers achieve “B” grade or above in green procurement evaluation by Yamatake.
